How to fix computer not booting after Windows update

Since Windows update v1809 October 2 update caused few issues, Microsoft has paused v1809 rollout. The same update with fix has Re-released on 9 October again. Microsoft released fix cumulative update KB4464330 Whoever already installed version 1809 2 October update. You can just install KB4464330 this may fix computer not booting issues.

How to install cumulative update KB4464330

Due to Windows start up files are broken you are unable to boot computer in normal mode. You can try booting the computer in safe mode. Let us reboot the computer now to install KB4464330 update. To do that follow below steps.

  1. Press Win+R on your keyboard at the same time to bring up run command
  2. Type msconfig and click OK. Then the System Configurations will open
  3. When System Configuration opens, click the Boot tab. Under Boot options, check Safe boot then click OK.

4. When you’re prompted to restart your computer to apply these changes,                    click Restart then you will boot into the Safe Mode.

Step 1: Perform clean boot

  1. Press Windows + R at same time. Type msconfig. Click on OK.
  2. On General tab, Uncheck Load start up items.
  3. On Services tab. Click on Hide all Microsoft services. Click on Disable all. Click OK
  4. Restart the computer. Check if the computer reboots in normal mode.
  5. If the computer not booting in normal mode, continue with step 2:

Steps 2: Disable or Uninstall Anti-virus

If you have installed any third party security software like antivirus or firewall, I would suggest you disable them temporarily and check if it works. To do that reboot the computer in safe mode again.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn’t disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you’re done. If you’re connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Step 3: Refresh or Reset Windows 10.

Windows Refresh or Reset will repair all damaged Windows start up files and allow computer to reboot in normal mode. Moreover, it will reset your computer settings to Windows default. Refer below links to refresh or reset Windows 10.

Note: Windows refresh or Reset will erase your computer data permanently, please make sure you copy or back your data into external hard disk or any other external source.
